Paula Rigby on the passing of her father, John Rigby (service 9-4-14)

“On such a sad occasion of the passing away of our Dad, we were very pleased with the way, Chris managed to conduct the service with accuracy, warmth and humour. We would happily recommend his services to others.”

Paula Langdon on the passing of her father, Colin Beverley (service 9-5-14)

“When my Dad passed away, we were adamant that we were not interested in a service full of religion. We wanted his service to be a celebration of his life and to be very personal to him, his family and friends.

From our first telephone conversation with Chris and especially when he visited our home, Chris put us all at our ease and made us feel calm and positive about the whole process. Chris spent nearly two hours with us at our home, getting to know all about our departed Dad. He had the ability to prompt us to remember those happy times we had shared together and there was plenty of laughter, something we all needed.

On the day, Chris was organised, reassuring and smart. He delivered a very unique, moving and personal service, which was taylor made to include all the issues we had discussed.

After the service, Chris was kind enough to give me a copy of the service he had delivered and followed up with a courtesy call the week after to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

I would recommend using Chris for any type of life celebration and I am sure you would not be disappointed.”

Darren M Clark CSTJ (Funeral Director)

“My Companies have used, Chris Henthorn on numerous occasions to deliver the funeral services on behalf of our clients.

Throughout these services, I have found Chris to be loyal, prompt and above all, extremely professional in both dealing with my clients and in the way he delivers the service on the day of the funeral. He has the ability to make a sad day into a fitting and special day enabling the families to reflect in a positive way in celebrating their loved ones life,

I have also had many very positive words from my clients about the way which Chris deals with them, in a caring, compassionate and professional manner. They particularly like his delivery and the way he can easily inject humour to lighten the feeling in the chapel.

I would have no hesitation in recommending his services to any colleagues in the trade.”

Rosemary, on the passing of her father, Denis Kirk

“Thank you so very much for the service you conducted for Dad today. In preparation, you spent over two hours with us, on a beautiful sunny day and allowed us to share with you, our most treasured memories. The time and effort it must have taken to put all our garbled thoughts into such a coherent and beautiful eulogy was obvious by the finished result. You conducted the service with just the right balance of respect and dignified humour, which gave us the perfect farewell to Dad. I know he would have loved it and you summed up his personality and character perfectly.

Everyone said afterwards, what a lovely service it was and how nice it was that the whole thing was unique to Dad. There was such a lovely buzz after the service because although people were saddened, we all came out with glad hearts and full of happy memories, which your words had awakened in everyone’s hearts and minds.

On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a very difficult day, an occasion to remember and treasure”.

Sue Lane on the passing of her Grandmother

I just wanted to send our most heart felt thanks for a wonderful tribute to our grandmother’s life today. Your compassion during the time you spent with us whilst getting a sense of whom she was, really helped to start the healing process for some of the family. But your delivery of such a beautiful story of her life was more touching than any of us could have asked for. I’ve never been to a funeral where people commented as much on how wonderful the service was, and even asked me for the number of the speaker! So thank you again Chris, it made a dark day brighter. Irene Lane 7/7/14

Jeff Glasper on the passing of his father.

“Just wanted to thank you so much for the service you did for my dad today.
It was always going to be difficult being so far away – but despite only chatting on the phone before the day – what you added to the ceremony was wonderful.
Your advise was right, but you listened and gave total consideration to what we wanted to be said.
The service was therefore very personal to dad, no religion as we had asked but a most moving service and beautifully delivered.
My wife and I are most grateful.
We appreciate everything you did and said.Thank you.”

George & Ronald Lampard on the passing of their father, Dennis Lampard

“The service you gave for our father (Dennis Lampard) on Wed the 17th. of Dec. @ Hollinwood was very moving and perfect for what our father wanted. We are more than happy to recommend you to all our friends and family. You took great care to listen to us about our Dads life and you painted a very good and accurate picture. Once again thank you very much.”

Claire Buckley on the passing of her father-in-law, Arthur Buckley

“I am sending this on behalf of my mother in law Linda Buckley for the amazing service you did for my father in law arthur buckley on thursday 9th october. You had us all laughing at parts of the speech and brought out all of arthurs best qualities. You made us all proud of who he was and what he brought into our lives.
Could you please let me know the name of the poem that you read out as we would like to get a copy and frame it as it was beautiful. Thank you so much again for making arthurs final journey so special to us all.”

Patricia Rabbett on the passing of her husband, Thomas William Rabbett

“Before his death Tom wrote his own eulogy and at Tom’s service we were very pleased with how Chris was able to read it capturing the right tone, humor and warmth”

On the passing of Richard Parsonage

My Family and I would like to thank you for your professional and heart warming eulogy for our Uncle (Richard Parsonage), which took place at Dukinfield Crematorium on 22.01.15. Your attention to detail, professionalism and humour gave our Uncle a great send off, he would have been proud. Thanks again for your kind words, in making the service memorable to us all.
From Helen Sharples on the passing of her father Bill Frankland

Chris. We all wish to thank you for battling the elements to deliver such a wonderful Eulogy and service for Bill Frankland. We received so many positive comments from friends and family about how lovely the service was and how much they enjoyed the way you told the story of Bill’s life. We couldn’t have wished for a better representation. A Big thank you from all the family. 29-1-15

From Katy Nelson on the funeral of her Garndad, Frank Nelson.
“We were introduced to Chris through the funeral directors. He visited our home and spent over two hours talking to us about our Dad/Grandad. We went through the different aspects and stages of his life in order to produce a eulogy for his funeral service. I would like to send Chris our most heartfelt thanks for the tribute and service he gave. It was perfect and just what our dad/granddad would have wanted. We could not have been more happier with his service, which was a perfect send-off for our Dad/Grandad. I would strongly recommend Chris for your loved ones funeral service. I even commented afterwards that it was the best funeral I had ever been to.!!! As it was completely based on our beloved Dad/Grandad’s life. Chris was very prompt, extremely helpful and a pleasure to share our memories and time with. He made it a very special day for us all. 30-1-15

Hi Chris
I just wanted to send a message to say thank you for everything at dads funeral yesterday. Your words were perfect and I know my mum and sister took a lot of comfort from that.
You did dad proud. A very kind man who’s services I will definitely recommend.

Hi ChrisThanks again from all the family for such a wonderful service today. We wanted a true celebration of Harry’s life and you certainly delivered that. Back at the Wake, so many people commented on your lovely words and presentation and they will take great memories from today. In fact, several of the guests mentioned that they would like a similar service at their own funerals!

Lovely to meet you and I’ll be sure to sing your praises to Wellens when I speak to them tomorrow.

Best regards

Elaine Clarke

Hi Chris
I would just like to Thank-you from myself and family for the fantastic service you provided
for my late beloved wife Carol Simcock at Rochdale Crematoriam, on the 8th March 2015. The professional way it was conducted by yourself and the way you described the life of Carol had all her friends and colleges
telling me that it was one of the best eulogies they have heard and Carol I am sure
will be remembered for a long time to come after the service.
Once again a big thank-you,
Ray Simcock
Julia after the death of her husband, Fred.
When my husband died, my family and I decided to arrange a humanist funeral but unfortunately the celebrant normally engaged by our funeral director was not available.  However, they had been impressed by Chris when he had called in to introduce himself a short while beforehand.  So we decided to ask him to conduct the service.  We couldn’t have been more pleased!
Before meeting Chris, I had jotted down a few notes and stories about Fred’s life to discuss with him.  Chris took a real interest in what we had to say, so that his eulogy was a fitting tribute to Fred, delivered with compassion, sincerity and, importantly, with feeling and humour.
Afterwards, friends and family used the words ‘marvellous’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘wonderful’ to describe Chris and the service.  I even had some asking for his phone number.  I don’t think you could have a better recommendation than that!
Thank you for everything, Chris.

My beautiful Nan passed away on 20.4.15. At what was a very difficult time we thought about who would give service at her funeral. Chris was the perfect choice to speak about my nan. We met him the day before and spent about 2 hours talking about my nan.
The service was amazing, it was as though he had met my nan. It truly gave her a fitting and beautiful send off and we can’t thank Chris enough.

The family of Steven Taylor (Service 18th March 2015)

We would all like to thank Chris for the lovely service that he delivered for Steven.

Chris came into our home and spent a lovely couple of hours with us all. He is so relaxed it helped us all relax as we discussed our memories of our Son, Brother, Uncle.

He brought out of us lots of memories that we may not of thought of in our grief, that made us realise our lovable rouge had lived a bright life.

Chris is very professional, but friendly and positive in his approach to the service he delivers.

He also read a poem out that Stevens sister had written from her and his brothers, as she co managed to do it herself.

We would recommend Chris to anyone who is in need of a service especially without a religious aspect.

Kind Regards

The Taylor Family

Hi Chris,

Both Gaynor and I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for conducting Colin’s service and for delivering his eulogy on Friday.

You were able to capture the “spirit of Colin” and a number of the mourners were visibly moved by your kind words.  I was amazed that you were able to construct such a flowing tribute from our “garbled recollections” of just 10 days previous and this is a testament to both your professionalism and your incredible ability as an orator.  You made us both feel totally at ease at a very difficult time and we knew we were in “safe hands”. The fact that the rain stopped just as you started the service will also live long in the memory.

We would both be grateful if you could send us an electronic copy of the eulogy.

Once again, many thanks

From meeting you at my home to the day of the funeral you have been wonderful. You made a sad and upsetting day into a really lovely day by  remembering my grandad from the good old days until the present.

Good afternoon Chris,

I have now had time to reflect on my mother’s funeral and thought it was time to drop you an email. Firstly, thank you for your kind and considerate attention from the first time we met. I was pleased with the way that you incorporated my memories, my brother’s memories and your own experience and knowledge of elderly people’s needs and sensitivities on these difficult occasions.

I appreciated the opportunity to see a draft of the eulogy 3 days before the funeral so that I could correct any errors or misrepresentations I might have made when we talked. It is interesting how much you realise you do not know when you have to put names and dates to family memories and events and a bit of time to rethink how you have presented things is very helpful.

I am sure that for you the same issues occur frequently though every occasion is a unique one.

So thank you for making a sad occasion more positive and for handling the event and my family with such care, compassion and professionalism, it was greatly appreciated.

With best wishes,

David Kelly

On behalf of my mother and rest of the family we would like to thank you for a wonderful service for my Dad Eric. The reception of people after the service we received we’re overwhelming they were saying they had not been to another more upbeat service with a very refreshing non minister, reflecting more on my dad as it should be. I personally thought you were professional as well as coming across with a lot of humour as again my dad would have wanted. I am actively mentioning you to lots of people and I have sent a personal recommendation to Barlows as well.

Very Kind Regards Duncan

Chris, thank-you so much.

You put together an amazing eulogy for the funeral of my mum, Marion.

The clarity, professionalism, humour and whole tone that you brought to the occassion was perfect.

Just as promised, you turned a sad event into a true celebration of mum’s life.

Everyone who attended the funeral commented to me afterwards on what a great job you did, and how you captured the essence of my mum.

I cannot praise your efforts  too highly, and would recommend your services unreservedly.

Dear Chris,

I wanted to thank you for the eulogy you delivered on behalf of my grandma earlier today. It was lovely, heartfelt and came across as if you personally knew her. You did as you said you would and utilised every bit of information that we gave to you and made myself and others laugh during the eulogy – after the last 2 weeks I didn’t think I’d be able to laugh so soon but you have made me see the light with your kind words and lovely poem.

My grandma would have been proud of what you said, how you said it and how it was received by us. Everyone I spoke to after the service commented how lovely and heartfelt your eulogy was.

If you could send me a copy of the eulogy it would be appreciated.

Thank you again.

Danny.

Hello Chris,

We wish to express our thanks for the Eulogy you wrote and delivered at the graveside for the funeral of James Masters on the 27th February 2017.

All who heard it said that it was a fitting and inspiring tribute to Jim at a time which is usually very sad and dark, it did actually lift peoples spirits and was a celebration of his life, rather than a mourning of his death. People left the service with a positive outlook, good memories of who he was and had been to them.

At a time which is obviously very difficult and painful, you came into our home and just talked to us about his life and times from his birth to his death and then produced a moving and inspiring Eulogy which actually contained happiness, hope and ‘future’, to remember the good, happy times rather than just the loss you feel with his death.

Our mother could not attend the service on the day because she is house bound, but she read the copy of the Eulogy you provided and was very moved and heartened by it, it was a good positive memory of Jim for her, a good way to remember him as he truly was before he became ill. It is very easy to dwell on the upset and pain, but you need to remember all the good years you had rather than the last few months of upset and shocks, to remember to celebrate their unique life and character rather than just dwelling on the pain of losing them.

It is not something that you can do on your own, because you do feel like a traitor to their memory if you have a smile or a laugh because of them after they’ve gone, you feel it is wrong and disrespectful, that you should be mourning and unhappy to honour them, but there are far more happy times in life than sad and we need to remember that at these times.

Thank you once again for the day Chris, it really did take a lot of the pain away for us, people forget the power of words and their capacity to create or destroy, to calm or inflame.

Thank you,

Mrs. Edna Masters, Patricia Masters, Leslie Masters.

Chris

Just a line to thank you for the way you conducted the funeral service for my Mum last Thursday. Everybody who attended felt it was pitched at the correct level and several people commented that they had not attended a service the way it was carried out, and approved.

If you wish to use an endorsement from our family please feel free to use all of some of the below.

My Family would like to thank Chris for the way he conducted my Mother Dorothy’s funeral service. Chris came and spoke to myself, along with my Dad and Brother, and gathered the information he needed to create his eulogy, in a sensitive but positive way, which in turn lead to my Mother’s service striking the right note between remembrance and celebration of my Mother.

I want to thank you personally for enabling my family to say goodbye to Vera in such a beautiful way on 26th September 2016.  The eulogy was so lovely, so poignant and totally reminiscent of my mother and all that she meant to all of us. Your care, attention to detail and sunny personality made a difficult time one of fond remembrances and as a friend of the family and Vera would have loved to meet you.  You did her memory proud and helped us in our grief and we were thankful to have you guide the way.  Thank you Chris.

Hi Chris,
It was so good to meet you, so glad you were recommended to us by Wendy at the Coop. I have sent a thank you also to you via your website. My thanks are the most sincere ones I have ever given to anyone, you were amazing Chris and you did my Mum’s memory proud.  The service was beautiful and so many of the mourners said the same, family and friends all thought it a fitting eulogy to a warm hearted woman whose spirit touched so many.

No need to make any amendments to it, but, could you send me a copy of the Commemoration – I would like to send a copy to my aunt and cousins who couldn’t be there on the day?

Keep well and doing what you are most talented at doing, I hope your wife finds some relief from her pain too.  In the words of Desiderata “be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be and keep peace in your soul”.

Hi Chris,

I meant to email you sooner but things have been a bit hectic since last Wednesday.

On behalf of both Sue and myself, I should like to say ‘Thank You’ very much for the lovely service you delivered at Ian’s funeral. Everyone commented on how it struck just the right note and I think we were all agreed that he would have approved !

Many thanks and kind regards,

Rod Shreeve.

Hi Chris,

I want to say a massive thanks for my dads send off on Thursday he would’ve been extremely proud as we were.

My family and friends all commented on the poignant Eulogy to my father and shared their memories, as you suggested, at the following Wake.  Our future memories of today will be those of kind words and a dignified burial thanks to you.

With kind regards and heartfelt thanks,

Dear Chris,
I want to thank you personally for enabling my family to say goodbye to Vera in such a beautiful way on 26th September 2016.

Hi Chris. Thank you for the very smooth and  professional way in which you conducted the service and eulogy for Angela’s funeral. A very personal touch with a hint of humour, which I know Angela would have loved, after the service a number of friends and family asked who you were and said how touched they were to hear a personal insight into Angela’s life. Thank you once again Chris, and I will recommend you to everyone.

Thank you Chris.
Somehow that doesn’t really express our sentiment or gratitude for the celebration of our daughter Shannon Mae’s life, that you presented.  This was not a funeral service, it was most assuredly a celebration about the life of our remarkable baby girl, who passed away under devastating and tragic circumstances and Chris made it as personal as he was personable.  Family friends and work colleagues who had never met our daughter, Shannon, commented afterwards, that although they had never met her they felt as if they knew her after Chris had finished.
From the first moment we had contact with him, it felt as natural and easy going as it could be, under the circumstances.  He came to our house and spent almost 2 hours listening, and gently directing his questions to us in such an affable manner, that what could have been an upsetting passage through our daughter’s short lifetime, became a comfortable walk through her remarkable journey.
So again, we say Thank you Chris, and if anyone knows a better or more appropriate word, please insert it as necessary.

Much Love,
Jay, Adele, and Daniel Himes

Dear Chris,

I cannot thank you enough for the beautiful service you did for my dad’s funeral on the 29th September. When me and my family welcomed you into our family home I knew straight away upon first meeting you were the right man for the job. The attention to detail in putting my dad’s service together was impeccable. You listened to each member of our family who each had a story to tell about my dad which there were quite a few! You spent time looking at all the photos we had put out of my dad growing up, our family life and his working life, which enabled you to get to know my dad as a person and the life he lived. You delivered the kind of service that my dad would have approved of, and you made me and my family very proud. Like my dad it was full of humour and laughter and was very much a celebration of his life. I’m not just saying this as it was my dad’s service , but this was the best funeral service I have ever been too, and all the family and friends who attended also commented on how fantastic the service was, and that they had never been to a service like this before. They also said they had never been to a funeral service where the widow was laughing which is exactly what my dad would have wanted.

Hi Chris

Once again a heartfelt thanks on behalf of all the family your words today touched everyone and were very much needed and appreciated.

As discussed if you can forward an electronic copy of the Eulogy in order that we can share once again with the family.

Thanks again and we will certainly recommend your services in the future.

We knew we didn’t want a totally religious service for our father, Arnold Brown, but beyond that we were not sure what we wanted. Having spent some time talking to Chris earlier in the week, he gave us just the service my Dad would have wanted on 22.12.17.  He brought Dad’s life back to us with warmth and humour, making the event both memorable and uplifting.  It couldn’t have been better.

Hi Chris – I just want to convey my thanks for the lovely ‘send off’ you gave my brother Frank last Friday. I felt that it was given with the greatest respect but it also had just the right amount of humour which Frank would have appreciated.

Composing a eulogy can’t be easy when you’ve never met the person it’s intended for but you managed to make it seem as if you did know him and I have to say that everyone I spoke to afterwards felt the same. When I got home and sat quietly contemplating the service I realised that my main feeling was that of comfort – I felt really comforted by the whole thing.

So, once again Chris, thank you for making a very sad day a lot more bearable.

Love from Susan X
